Green Light to Project Canvas

Recent reports reveal that the proposal to permit broadband internet access through the TV sets would be approved by the BBC Trust. The project has been already dubbed as ‘Project Canvas’.

The Project Canvas venture ensures that customers will be provided with web services such as the iPlayer of BBC via a fresProject Canvashly developed set-top box that would also come broadband internet-enabled.

The leading newspaper circulated in the United Kingdom, the Financial Times has meanwhile reported that the governing body of the BBC had been deliberating if the scheme represented an ideal use of the money of the licence payer, although it was ready to offer the green light.

According to another development, the two leading internet servic providers operating in the United Kingdom, BT and TalkTalk would be backing the Project Canvas initiative. Other entities that has already announced their support to the venture are the terrestrial broadcasters; ITV, Channel 4 and Five.

According to the senior director for television at TalkTalk, Max Alexander’s comments made last week,  the company would be leading to an enhancement in the quality of service it offered to four million customers in the United Kingdom, by joining the Project Canvas.

TalkTalk is the broadband service providing wing of the mobile phone retailer giant of the United Kingdom, Carphone Warehouse.
