Gigaclear appointed new CEO Gareth Williams

The rural ISP in the UK – Gigaclear has recently announced that they have appointed Gareth Williams as their new CEO. Gareth is the former CEO of Europe’s one of the largest fibre networks Interoute. Mike Surrey who is Gigaclear’s Interim CEO will continue in his role till March end.

Gareth Williams was in Interoute for 17 years and of which 11 years as Chief Executive of the company and before that he held the position of President of Global Sales. The company had developed under his leadership as one of the biggest cloud service providers in Europe with revenue growth from €188 million to €710 million. Almost he had prior experience of 15 years in the fields of IT and Telecom.

Gigaclear had started their search for their new CEO to replace Matthew Hare during last spring itself after M&G Investment Management fund bought the service provider. The ISP planned for deployment of 1Gbps capable FTTP network to reach 65000+ premises in rural parts of England and aspire to reach 3.5 lakh premises by 2021. But the things didn’t go well and many of their projects found delay in execution. The ISP has been in the process of rectifying these problems and doing changes in their executive team is part of it. The appointment of Gareth will be helpful for them.

The ISP has also appointed its new Chief Operating Officer Drew Ritchie and new Delivery Director Nathan Rundle. Drew was earlier in Affinity Water Ltd as MD of Wholesale Operations and Nathan was previously in Openreach worked as Delivery Director – South Region.

Chief Executive of Gigaclear – Gareth Williams said that Gigaclear has grown as an important player in the UK’s digital transformation connecting underserved areas of the UK with high speed broadband connectivity and he feels pleasure joining Gigaclear at its evolution.

Asset Management Director of Infracapital (Gigaclear Owner) – Stephen Nelson said that Gareth’s appointment shows clearly the wonderful opportunities for Gigaclear and they are looking forward to support the business which is working towards delivery of full fibre broadband in the rural parts of Britain. On behalf of Infracapital, he thanked Mike Surrey – Interim CEO for his invaluable support that he has given and wishing him for his successful future.

Independent Chairman of Gigaclear – Charles McGregor said that Gareth Williams is having a proven track record of having successfully led European network infrastructure business as his previous experience. He feels delighted for his joining and looking forward to work with him closely.
