Former customers of Pipex furious

Pipex broadband supplier has launched a new account management website. But this has made its former customers very furious because Pipex revealed that the provider has retained the personal details of the customers that include even their banking information. The fact that made the customers furious was that they have retained the details up to 11 months even after they had quit their contract.

Mypipex.net website was opened last week for business broadband and the users instantly noticed that the accounts that were not accessible on the old site were available. The customers have raised their worries regarding this.

Customers who migrated from Pipex months back could log on to the new Pipex site with the old user name and password. They are worried that the provider is still having their personal data and payment card details. Some of the customers even found some lost messages after they tried to logged on to the new site.

According to the Data Protection Act, retaining data is a part of processing which surely needs some justification. But, as the Act specifies, the personal details about the customers need not be retained by the broadband provider once the customer quits the provider. On the contrary, Pipex has not given any statement on why they have still retained the personal information of the customers. With almost 570,000 broadband customers, Pipex mentioned that they are looking into the issue.
