First Locations For Superfast Broadband Launch Announced by BT
Could this be taken as the first step towards a huge leap ahead? The answer, no matter whether negative or positive, British Telecoms have announced the names of the locations where the initial roll-out of the optical fibre based high speed broadband would happen through the company’s network.
BT, last day announced the names of six locations as the first areas where their optic fibre network would offer internet access of superfast nature. The areas are namely, London, Glasgow, Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Greater Manchester.
Amongst these urban locations, BT have focused on a couple of rural locations as well, namely Taffs Well near Cardiff and Calder Valley near Halifax. They say that deploying fibre in the two rural areas would give them experience on laying out optic fibre technology in such environments.
BT further claimed that the announcement on the next set of locations would come in the autumn that would hopefully serve a further million business broadband packages. Something for the commoner to muse over here is the fact that BT have pledged to roll out by 2012, a sum of GBP1.5 billion that would ensure optic fibre access to 40 percent of UK businesses and homes.
