Fibre Broadband Network of BT to be opened to Rivals

BT to Open Up Fibre Ducts to RivalsThe leading fixed-line and fibre optic broadband providers operating in the United Kingdom, BT has announced that it was all willing to share its fibre optic broadband ducts with its rival broadband providers in the country.

The move from BT is deemed quite productive as it allow other broadband suppliers to exted their own fibre broadband internet packages without wasting funds on repeatedly digging up the roads. This is something similar to the way LLU had opened up the market to ISPs such as Sky and TalkTalk.

According to BT chief executive officer Ian Livingstone, they had informed Ofcom last year that they were ready to provide open access to their poles and ducts an they were working with the other players on how to achieve that.

Livingstone added that BT was relaxed on providing other firms with a different and advanced form of access as well since those firms already were enjoying access to their exchanges. He also hoped that a future government would grant support to a move that refers to opening up the ducts of every firm not just theirs with a broader view to extend coverage comprehensively.

It is also worth mentioning here that both the Conservative Party and the Labour government had put forward their claims of seeing superfast fibre optic broadband network covering about 90 per cent of the country by 2017 through their plans.
