Free Wi-Fi launched in Kirklees community buildings

Residents and tenants in Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) properties can now access free Wi-Fi service in eight KNH community buildings. The service run by the community, offers connectivity to the KNH buildings in Meltham, Deighton, Lindley, Salendine Nook, Almondbury. Netherton and Batley Carr.

This marks the the latest stage in the KNH project and links to the effort to motivate residents to run more communal activities. The service rolled out aims to give as many of Kirlees residents as possible, wireless internet connectivity. The spokesperson for KNH, Penny Allison, said the buildings with the IT equipment will be open for at least five hours in a week. She also added that they were working to support the resident groups and tenants, who run the buildings, to offer breakfast clubs, IT training sessions, community cafes and coffee mornings. In recent projects they have put up Wi-Fi kiosks in community rooms of Holme Park Court flats and Bishop Court and have installed in all the living schemes they manage, free Wi-Fi service, she pointed out.
