EIU Survey Reports a Drop for the UK in the E-readiness Rankings
A survey carried out by the EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) shows in its reports that UK has dropped in the e-readiness rankings amongst the countries. This report is all the more significant in the current environment where the UK contemplating on heavy investment in the digital segment, technology and broadband.
The league table of the e-readiness survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, is compiled on an yearly basis. The results that were shown up this year has been considered quiet interesting widely since the positions of many countries based on their e-readiness were deeply affected by the global recession.
The E-readiness Rankings 2009, which is the official title of the report, was released last week. Ranks were conferred to the countries included on the league table on the basis of their residents’ as well as business’s abilities to exploit its ICT resources and opportunities effectively, besides their ICT infrastructure itself.
The EIU however, explains the drop in the rankings for many countries this year including the UK, blaming it on the adverse effects of the global economic recession. This statement of the agency is substantiated by the fact that all the seventy countries that were included in the report witnessed a drop in their business environment scores this year.
