EE’s new Apple TV 4K replacing old Pay TV service for home broadband

Recently EE has announced that their old Pay TV product (IPTV) will be replaced by a new service – Apple TV 4K set top box for their fixed line home broadband & phone packages.

The Pay TV product, which was introduced before merger with BT and the broadband customers were required to pay an additional amount of £8 per month to get the box. The product offered PVR features, access to Freeview TV channels, access to premium on-demand content and an app. However it does not support 4K. Last year BT was telling that they will be replacing their product and for that they had entered into deal with Apple.

The current announcement will enable the broadband customers as well as Pay monthly mobile subscribers/ 12/24 month SIM only plan customers to make use of the new service by adding the Apple TV 4K box to their package at an additional cost of £15 a month. The new product Apple TV 4K supports with 1 x Gigabit LAN port, HDMI 2.0a port, 802.11ac wifi, IR Receiver and Bluetooth v5. The customers can also enjoy access to various entertainment apps such as ITV Hub, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime video, UK TV, NOW TV and also BT Sport and get access to Apple TV app and Siri. However it cannot support freeview TV channels.

Their packages with new service:

  • With 10 Mbps speed ADSL broadband package at £22 and £37 including Apple TV 4K for a contract term of 18 months and thereafter at £42.
  • With 36 Mbps speed Fibre broadband package at £28 and £43 including Apple TV 4K for a contract term of 18 months and thereafter at £47.
  • With 67 Mbps speed Fibre Plus broadband package at £32 and £47 including Apple TV 4K for a contract term of 18 months and thereafter at £52.
  • With 145 Mbps speed G.fast Fibre Max 1 broadband package at £42 and £57 including Apple TV 4K for a contract term of 18 months and thereafter at £59.
  • With 300 Mbps speed G.fast Fibre Max 2 broadband package at £50 and £63 including Apple TV 4K for a contract term of 18 months and thereafter at £64.

CEO of BT Consumer – Marc Allera said that they are giving their best to their customers with high quality Apple TV 4K product. With the new device, BT Sport and unlimited broadband service, the customers will get best value on their broadband and premium TV services.
