Do Not Bank on Mobile Broadband: T-Mobile

The interim Digital Britain report advocated by Lord Stephen Carter had stated that by the year 2012, both the fixed as well as the mobile broadband ISPs would be compelled by a new universal service obligation to provide every home in the UK, a 2Mbps broadband connection. Last day, T-Mobile broadband provider has sounded a warning to the government regarding its presumptions that pinning its hopes on mobile broadband to fulfill its promise of a 2Mbps internet connection for every home in the UK, could prove disappointing.

T-Mobile also tries to give a more vivid picture of the situation that coming to the delivery of high-speed data through broadband connections to rural areas, the mobile broadband companies were also facing the same challenges faced by fixed line  UK ISP. However, in between T-Mobile also expressed its happiness for being a part of the government’s plan of expanding broadband access, if called on. It further stated that economics were always going to evolve a factor as the cost of laying mobile broadband network in the sparsely populated areas was going to be a challenge.

According to the think-tank of T-Mobile, the next stage of Digital Britain was all about looking at the practicalities. Recently, the Ofcom chief Ed Richards had also revealed that 15 percent of Britain did not enjoy access to a 2Mbps broadband connection. Meanwhile, BT Broadband has claimed that it could provide 99 percent of the residents of Britain broadband access, though the home connections rolled out by them would only deliver a paltry 512Kpbs speed.

A T-Mobilespokesman, nevertheless gave a glimmer of hope to the internet users residing in urban areas who were still unable to get a fixed line connection of decent access speeds, by saying that they were contemplating on extending their mobile broadband network of 4.5 Mbps, into other major cities of the country as well. He also hoped that with the advent of LTE (Long Term Evolution technology), the mobile broadband speeds could increase at a rapid rate.Checkout exclusive broadband offers and also find latest broadband directory & broadband bundles.
