Deterrent Hard Core Threatens to Baffle Universal Broadband Plan

BRITAIN HEATHROW AIRPORT EXPANSIONThe government, according to its Digital Britain interim report, apparently had planned to make broadband connection available to each and every UK citizen. The farseeing plans of the government today seems to be in doldrums, baffled by a few hard core groups; mainly comprising of the elderly ones. These people firmly believe that using internet is expensive and not an essential thing.

A research published by Ofcom claims that 13 percent of Britons have no interest or need for a broadband connection. Even if the connection was given at free of cost, they were not willing to accept it.

According to the report by the Digital Britain, the government has plans to extend universal broadband across the country. It believes that adhering to this method, the country’s economy may boost up. The government is also planning to shift many of its services to online to economise expenditure. The European Union Commissioner ‘s view that access to internet was nothing less than a fundamental human right is significantly relevant in the circumstances.

A study shows that 70% of adults in the UK have internet at home and about nine percent could not afford it. The study also mentioned that the cost of the computer system, as well as the monthly connection charge were key factors. The group that carried out the study feels that the actual motivation should be undertaken and a reduction in equipment and tariffs should be allotted to the consumers.

A further study also shows that 13% of the hard core consumers are not at all interested in the service. These people are over 65 and the retired ones. Many among the group feel that with their lower income they were unable to cope with this, as some even carry an excuse that their children were not living with them. The majority of them have not used the UK broadband  service or the computer. They also feel that internet is meant for the younger generation.

Researchers had proposed several promotional measures such as cheaper computer-broadband packages, free training and simpler devices to encourage people, but nothing seemed to work. They seem to be adamant with their views.
