Cityfibre and NGC partnering to bring 1Gbps network to Wakefield’s firms

Cityfibre and NGC Networks are partnering to support a 1Gbps capable FTTP service and Ethernet network to serve Wakefield city in West Yorkshire. Cityfibre, the fibre optic network developer has acquired the existing dark fibre optic network in Wakefield from KCOM earlier in the ending of 2015, it may be recalled. Cityfibre aims to use this network to connect local businesses and commercialise it teaming up with the internet service provider NGC Networkds, with the aim of delivering Gigabit speeds to business users in Huddersfield and Bradford. Not much details are available on the plans for Wakefield, although a special event on 9 October is expected to release info on the scheme to service local firms.

Senior Business Manager for the North at Cityfibre, Jason Petron-Brown, said the was exvited to work with NGC to trnsform the digital infrastructure of UK and their new partnership will bring the benefits of full-fibre connectivity to even more businesses in the region. He added that already the Gigabit City network of Yorkshire is playing its role in growth of the region by driving investment, encouraging digital skills and boosting business efficiencies.
