It has been reported that TalkTalk UK ISP, the prominent subsidiary and broadband wing of the mother firm Carphone Warehouse, was all set to start migrating the broadband-only customers of Tiscali UK, the struggling broadband provider that was bought by the former earlier in 2009. It is understood that the migration procedures would start on January 7 2010. However, the issue that is believed to sprout as result of this move is that the broadband-only customers of Tiscali could end up loosing GBP 60 from their pockets if they decide to cling on to their existing provider’s service. They are given a deadline of January 14 2010 to avoid the loss.

As part of the procedure, TalkTalk has sent letters to the Tiscali standalone broadband customers stating that they were required to pay a monthly extra of GBP 5 to carry on using their existing broadband service, providing they bundle their broadband with a phone package of TalkTalk. Mark Schimid, the director for communications at TalkTalk, explained the move saying that they were aligning prices with anticipation that the users of the service of Tiscali would switch to TalkTalk’s broadband service. He added that those broadband only customers of Tiscali has been invited by them to take up a broadband home phone bundle of TalkTalk for just GBP 14 that they thought to be a remarkable deal.

Schimid continued that those Tiscali customers that refused to switch to the prescribed new broadband bundle of TalkTalk would be allowed to stay in their current package, but by paying an extra GBP 5 per month, which meant that their existing cost of GBP 14.99 would rise to GBP 19.99 per month. He concluded saying that his was mainly a broadband and phone company that offered the best packages based on the concept that the price would be raised to GBP 19.99 for those customers that did not want to take up calls from it, wishing to remain exclusively on a standalone broadband deal.

This might as a matter of fact culminate into a situation for the households that had taken a standalone broadband package of Tiscali; particularly those that were locked into an agreement with their home phone provider. It is obvious that the current move from TalkTalk could see this group ending up on a losing note as they would be virtually forced to pay a fee for contract termination or an yearly extra amount of GBP 60 for their broadband. All these while TalkTalk has been intensely arguing that it would save the customers considerable money, being a good offer.

On the other side, the most prominent fixed-line broadband provider as well as the home phone supplier operating in the United Kingdom, BT, has flayed the decision of TalkTalk to migrate customers at a price, on the ground that it could result in marking the end of the virtue called free broadband. It is interesting to listen to the lament made by the managing director of the consumer division of BT, John Petter that it was ironic that TalkTalk and Sky have currently backed from the free broadband deal, considering the duo was the architects of the free broadband concept.

To support his view, Petter has further made a complaint that as the customers of Tiscali UK, the broadband provider, which was facing attrition were believed to be ending up biting the bullet by paying as much as GBP 60 per year for absolutely nothing.Compare broadband offers, find latest broadband news and read unbiased reviews on broadband providers in UK.

The mobile phone retail giant of the United Kingdom that owns one of the largest fixed-line broadband internet networks in the country, Carphone Warehouse is all set to announce the chief executive officer for overseeing its broadband division, TalkTalk. The company is also preparing to demerge in March, next year.

This matter was revealed on Friday by Charles Dunstone, the group chief executive at Carphone Warehouse. He said that they have found a chief executive for the TalkTalk broadband division, and have signed the agreement as well. However, he declined to name the person yet as talks were ongoing with the current employer of the arriving executive, on the announcement timing.

Carphone Warehouse that have, besides owning the broadband operations in the United Kingdom of TalkTalk and AOL Broadband, acquired recently the UK assets of Tiscali, is on track to a demerger with Best Buy, the retail giant of the United States that had been partnering Carphone on a 50:50 joint venture.

It is understood that the post split scenario will be highlighted by Dunstone assuming the role of the chairman of both the firms and a new chief executive coming in for Carphone Warehouse plc that could be Roger Taylor, the finance director of the company at present.

Tiscali UK, one of the most popular broadband service providers functioning in the United Kingdom, has introduced a fresh broadband music download service of the DRM free kind in the country. For realizing this, the UK ISP has reportedly struck a deal with eMusic.

The fresh music download service has been dubbed as Music For Life. The subscription for this new broadband service for internet music will be availed to Tiscali UK portal customers for a price of GBP 9.99 per month. The advantage of this service, in the view of the customers is the offering of a remarkable 6.5 million MP3 songs for them to download.

The previously Italian owned broadband company, Tiscali, was recently acquired by the mobile phone giant of the United Kingdom, Carphone Warehouse that also owns another internet service providing company, TalkTalk. The latter is popular in the UK for its offering some of the cheapest business broadband packages.

Meanwhile, Tiscali UK has announced its offering the fresh customers fifty free songs on their signing up for a free trial for fourteen days, as a token for celebrating its Music For Life launch. Another merit of this service is that cancellation of the trial can be done at any point by the users, who will be still allowed to keep with them their downloads.

Carphone Warehouse, the prominent British mobile phones retailer and the owner of one of the largest UK broadband providers, TalkTalk, has decided to reduce the original GBP 236 million price it had agreed to pay the Italian broadband supplier, Tiscali, for its assets in the UK.

It was all there in the statement of Charles Dunstone, the chief executive officer of Carphone Warehouse that Tiscali UK overstated the figures effectively, and when they checked the cupboard they could only find lessthan what they had been led to believe.

According to Carphone Warehouse sources, when the agreement was drawn on the transaction, the Italian broadband provider had made them believe that the latter had a broadband customer base of 1.4 million, although a trading statement published recently revealed that it had 160,000 customers fewer than what it had affirmed back in May.

Meanwhile, the broadband market experts calculate that under the new circumstances, the sale price for Tiscali’s assets in the United Kingdom would drop further by around GBP 25 million. This could be a probability according to the experts for one important reason that Carphone Warehouse had agreed originally to pay the Italian owner of Tiscali UK on a per-customer basis.

History says that Tiscali UK once enjoyed the status of one of the largest internet service provider in the United Kingdom, and the sales of its assets in the country had witnessed many dramatic twists. The company also had in its heydays bought a number of rival UK ISPs such as Pipex and Home Choice.
