Many network providers are offering in-car broadband that allows you to access internet when you are on the move. By setting-up a Wi-Fi device in your car, you can stay connected to the internet, regardless of the time and place. In-car broadband is not very popular nowadays but with advancement of technology and increasing need for internet, demand for this type of broadband will grow. In a matter of time, In-car broadband will become very common.

A good example for this type of broadband is MiFi from 3 network. This is a compact device that can be easily installed and configured in your vehicle. Car Wi-Fi is an entirely new concept and the 2010 Gadget Show Live at the NEC in Birmingham witnessed the launch of the dongle. In comparison to the mobile dongle, it offers better connectivity choices. Advantages of in Car Wi-Fi are great and implausible.

Music and Video streaming
When other mobile dongles prevents you from video and music streaming activities on the move, In Car broadband allows you to access and stream high quality videos and music. What’s more, the kids can use their iPods from the car. The in-car Wi-Fi device is capable of handling tower transfers at high speeds, unlike smart phones and mobile devices that works on stationary position. Wi-Fi dongle is designed in such a way that a consistent connection is maintained without signal dropping. In short, this technology will make your road trips fun and entertaining.

Controlling car settings
With Wi-Fi connectivity, the driver can have complete control over the cat settings from anywhere. This is definitely a plus point, especially when you are out to buy a coffee or meal. What’s more with such great technology you can even locate your lost car using the phone.

Access Instant updates
During road trips and long drives you are offered with instant updates about speed cameras and radars. You can also have access to latest news, weather and other updates, sitting at the comfort of your car. It also offers system updates regularly.

Internet access to all passengers
Once in-car broadband is set-up and configured, it can offer Wi-Fi hotspot for several Wi-Fi enabled devices, including Laptops, iPads / ipods, Smart phones and Game systems. With the capability to offer internet connectivity to a range of devices, everyone in the vehicle can have access to high speed internet. There are dongles that creates Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices.

Business professionals and salespeople can always work when they are on the move. They can utilize the time well and increase their productivity while travelling. When you are out camping or vacationing, your vehicle will have Wi-Fi hot-spot always. Communicate with your friends and family and access useful information from your car. In Car Wi-Fi comes in various plans to cater to the needs of the users. In the coming years, In-car broadband will be popular and widely used.

The record for the first car manufacturer to develop a broadband system that would fit perfectly in the dashboard of the vehicle would now go to the Ford Motor Company, as it is in the final stages of realising this dream that although would only be availed in the United States of America initially. For achieving this, Ford has struck a tie-up with Opera, the software installation company.

The vehicles that would hit the road offering the customers broadband options are expected to be, at least for the time being, a few commercial vehicles like the Ford E-Series vehicles, Ford Transit Connect trucks, Super Duty vehicles of Ford as well as the Ford F-150.

The hardware for the in-car broadband scheme of Ford would be manufactured by Magneti Marelli, an Italy-based hardware firm, and the operating system that would act as the interface between the driver and the broadband would be the Auto Operating System of Microsoft. The browser that comes preloaded in the system would be the Opera Mini browser.

Another software advantage offered to the system by the software firm is the remote accessing capability through an application called LogMeln Pro. Other features of the system are; a touchscreen of 6.5” diagonal size, a wireless keyboard, a USB port and a 4GB memory that can be further extended using its secure digital SD card slot.

The in car broadband system of Ford, which is conveniently termed as the Work Solutions device can easily get fitted into the slot in the car intented for a car radio or music system. The Work Solutions device, apart from all these would initially accompany an offer of an onboard mobile inkjet printer that is battery and bluetooth powered.

As a matter of fact, it was Chrysler who, among the car manufacturers had announced first its plans on launching broadband facilitated vehicles. It had, last year hinted that it would launch such vehicles in the UK.
