The golf fans in the United Kingdom were entitled to enjoy the US Open Golf 2010 live over the internet. The live online video streaming of the popular event from Pebble Beach started from Thursday June 17 on the Sky Sports Player at British time 3 pm.

Any broadband internet customer with a Sky Sports package on an unlimited broadband package or Multiroom was entitled to follow the action. Another way to watch the enterprising proceedings was to pay the Sky Player for a monthly subscription.

Many of those who were not fortunate enough to access the video, instead followed the proceedings on the live US Open Leaderboard or the US Open official twitter updates.

A striking significance of the US Open of this year was its celebrating the tenth year of the fifteen-shot record victory of the golfing legend Tiger Woods at Pebble Beach. Woods later repeated the feat twice in 2002 and 2008.

Nevertheless, the private life of Woods since that last victory unfortunately had gone into freefall and many of his admirers might have found him far from that rampant force that he was once.

On the other hand, it is also fact that the United Kingdom has not provided a winner of the US Open Golf since 1970 that saw the triumph of Tony Jacklin.

It has been reported that the broadband digital TV service Project Canvas would be investigated by the Office of Fair Trading, following some concerns expressed by rival broadband TV bundle providers Virgin Media and Sky.

Project Canvas, a controversial BBC venture has been joined by Five, Channel 4 and ITV, along with the broadband providers TalkTalk, Arqiva and BT. Arqiva is the company behind Seesaw, the internet-compliant TV service.

Incidentally, the BBC Trust had given Project Canvas, a preliminary go ahead, according to which it can allow its consumers enjoy catch up television services like BBC iPlayer and general tlevision services through an set-top box connected to internet.

Meanwhile, the investigation by OFT expected to begin this week would identify if the venture has reached the threshold for merger and threatened competition in the market. As a matter of fact, a range of changes addressing the concerns would be required for implementation, if the agency believed that the threshold has been met.

A consultation period that would last a number of weeks will form the first part of the investigation. The consultation term would ensure a reasoable chance given to the competitors to express their views regarding the project.

A fresh service of video on demand is all set to be availed to the broadband consumers across the United Kingdom. This service quiet important as it boasts of offering more than three thousand programming hours from various channels.

This is definitely fabulous news for the customers of the broadband internet in the country that wish to enjoy television shows through their computers and laptops. The fresh video on demand service conceived by Arqiva has been dubbed SeeSaw.

It is quite interesting to learn that Arqiva is the same firm that had acquired the assets of the ill-fated Project Kangaroo.

It is widely known that Project Kangaroo was a proposal of video on demand service forwarded by a group of prime broadcasting channels such as the Channel 4, the BBC and ITV. Incidentally, the European Competition Commission (ECC) had fatally blocked the proposal last year.

Although SeeSaw service would hardly deliver access to a good amount of on demand content of ITV, access to certain shows of ITV would be certainly provided resulting from a deal with the Digital Rights Group of the United Kingdom. Normally, programming from a number of TV channels including Channel 5, Channel 4 and the BBC would be offered by the fresh service.

A freshly developed guide that would be published in a very short time is expected to highlight the advantages of the digital TV services. It is believed that the fresh digital TV guide would be distributed among homes across the Cotswolds.

It was confirmed by Digital UK that guidance would highlight the measures to be taken when homes were purchasing set-top boxes of Freeview or those bought from broadband providers that also offers digital TV such as BT and Virgin Media, to make sure that even after the changes they could still enjoy TV.

Meanwhile, the Cotswold journal has reported that the process that involves a couple of stages would start of the 24th of March.

Meanwhile, Digital UK’s regional manager for the south west, Bill Taylor said that with the arrival of the new year, and resolutions fresh in the minds of the people, this could be a good time to ponder over significant changes to the way people watched television.

The news of the publishing of the new digital TV guide has come after an important confirmation from Sky that the 3D digital TV service of its own would be launched later in the year.

According to a report published in the Forester, a good number of homeowners were yet to buy set-top boxes or relevant services from the broadband TV service providers such as BT Vision to be prepared for the event while the date for the area’s switchover announced officially has been in April and June in 2011.

The assistant manager of Digital UK for the south west, David Farwig said that the customers served by the transmitter at Ridge Hill, could be affected by the potential changes.

Farwig added that a great number of people in the county have already switched to digital TV, and with only a few months to go for the big switchover day, they were urging every viewers of analogue television to be prepared.

It was revealed earlier this month that the BBC Trust was supporting Project Canvas, the freshly proposed digital TV service.
