Carphone Settling For Talks with Tiscali Finally

It seems that abandoning their policy of fishing in the already troubled waters of Tiscali, using its minor broadband arm TalkTalk, the mobiles giant Carphone Warehouse is finally settling for holding productive talks with Tiscali UK ISP. Carphone had already acquired the goods of AOL Broadband they can be at the top of the table if they succeed in buying the UK assets of Tiscali Broadband that is a company based in Italy.

carphone_1374623cA newspaper has reported that the struggling UK ISP Tiscali has come into terms with Carphone Warehouse to trade their UK operations for an amount around GBP 200 million. As a matter of fact, relying on a source very close to the deal the all the more positive news for Tiscali had been reported by the Daily Telegraph. They have also reported that the deal might be realized before the end of April.

Tiscali is at present holds the place of the fifth largest broadband supplier in the UK even in its strained condition. The most fatal blow to them came in the form of a Euro 243 million loss in the year 2008. Following this, a load of creditors had flocked around the ISP with their claims. However, Tiscali negotiated a stay, as well as time until June from the creditors to sort out its financial debts.

Another blow to them meanwhile came in the form of BSkyB, as the latter having committed an amount to take over Tiscali’s UK assets, all of a sudden did a u turn following the sterling crumbling in front of the Euro, last month. Still it is woes for Tiscali, as the current GBP 200 million bid of Carphone is almost a third less than the amount, the same company offered last year. In fact last year Carphone’s bid was for GBP 550 million.
