BT’s Decision of Introducing ADSL2+
BT has eventually proclaimed to launch their ADSL2+ technology to its business clients and customers without any payment. Days before millions of UK homes were only getting less than 2Mbps.

It was around four years back that the ADSL 2+ technology was first tried by an ISP to provide the customers in London, broadband speeds of 24 Mbps. Following this a rush was triggered amongst the rival ISPs to engage their own DSLAMs into the exchanges of BT with a view to provide the customers an unbundled service marked by better line speeds, which could be gained through the wholesale service of BT. The service, at present is maxed out at 8Mbps. However, it is also reality that many businesses, as well as homes in the country get nowhere near this speed.
A successful trial of ADSL 2 + technology was claimed by BT that was launched initially in Midlands. Subsequently, a customer base of 60,000 was further included by broadening it out across the compatible exchanges. This also indicates the future plans of the prime UK ISP to start roll out of the advanced technology to its business and home customers comprehensively.
Its expected that initially the technology will be benefiting 549 telephone exchanges that serve around ten million or 40 percent of the households in the country. BT is also hoping that 55 percent of the homes in the country could be provided broadband service by 2010. However, this very much depends on the consumer demand.
