BT Openreach introduces new Cease Charges from next month
BT Openreach announced that the new, reduced LLU MPF(Metallic Path Facility) and SMPF Cease charges for the providers who use its Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) lines, will come into effect on 10th June 2007. BT Openreach issued a briefing to its providers in this regard. According to it, the cease charges amounting £33.75 plus VAT charge for ceasing a LLU broadband service will be removed. However, this waiving of LLU MPF and SMPF Cease charges will be for a temporary period of one month.
In addition, CPs can have their LLU MDF jumpers removed, however, this new system will be introduced with the price in the near future. Until the removal of MDF jumpers, the SMPF CPs should make sure that dial-up services are maintained on the same line.
The new price, which will be notifed in a separate briefing before 10th June, is expected to be low enough. In that case, it is a good news for both broadband providers and BT customers.
The briefing from BT Openreach further says:
“The new price will be offered following systems changes and a review of the LLU Cease process with the aim of delivering a reduction in Openreach costs. This will be achieved by amending the process so that the cease is effected by a records-only change while the LLU MDF jumpers remain in place. With the line is in this condition it will be available for other CPs to take over as required.”
