BT Offers Business Customers Up to 40Mb Broadband Speeds

BT, the prominent fixed-line broadband internetservice operator in the United Kingdom has launched its superfast next generation fibre optic broadband trials in Scotland. This fibre to the cabinet broadband trial offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps to eligible businesses in the area.

The business customers of BT Broadband located in Glasgow will be the bodies that mainly benefit from the fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) trial. The trial would, besides providing the customers with download speeds of up to 40Mbps, also deliver up to 2Mbps upload speeds. The trial will run until 2010 March.

It is understood that the trials had begun after the report by a recent research carried out by the internet service provider suggested that 61 per cent of medium and small businesses thought faster broadband service could impact positively on their business.

The research also revealed that while a further 28 per cent of business firms were found to be using faster broadband internet to boost the capabilities of their websites, a quarter were found to be using to engage more bandwidth-thirsty technology.

BT Business’s managing director, Bill Murphy said against the backdrop of the trial that the future of business technology was high speed broadband service, and two thirds of the businesses have recognized the positive impact of higher broadband speeds, already. He added that their three trials would enable business firms to tell them how they wished to use their broadband services and what was possible in the prevailing world conditions.
