BT Develops I-Plate to Boost Broadband Speeds
BT has claimed that they have developed a unique broadband speed boosting gadget, which they have named I-Plate that according to the UK internet service providing giant, would improve the broadband internet access speeds vastly. This development, according to the UK ISP would considerably assist in the materialization of the government’s aims of providing a decent internet access speed to all households in the UK.
The communications minister of the UK, Lord Carter led Digital Britain project that aims at broadband access to all households in the UK at the speeds of 2Mbps is definitely rolling ahead if not crawling. In the circumstances, the development of the I-Plate can be of considerable help to the cause, provided it delivered. However, a BT spokesman was optimistic enough to claim that the new I-Plate will be a definite help to those people suffering ordinary broadband speeds.
The device that can be installed by the customer, is expected to don the role of a filter in the home of a customer by screening and hoovering electro-magnetic noise effectuated by other electrical devices such as lighting and televisions. Thus it wards off the interferences that result in slowing down of broadband.
Meanwhile, BT also claimed that the I-Plate boosted the broadband speeds by about 1.5Mbps during the tests carried out in its research houses. They also go to the extent of boasting that the device at times even achieved some astounding speeds of up to 4Mbps.
Whatsoever, BT has till date sold through its website, tens of thousands of the device that is priced by the ISP at GBP10. The UK ISP’s consumer facing segment, BT Retail is now planning to launch a marketing storm this summer in order to give the device a smooth introduction in the wider market. A disadvantage of the gadget is that not every household in the UK has the perfect socket to plug the device, although BT claims that out of ten households, seven (9 million homes), would be able to install the gadget.
