March 16, 2007Broadband VoIP over Wi-FiThe well known Voice over IP service provider, Vonage, has just launched their services in the United Kingdom. The first customer voice over IP and broadband service products will be available this spring or summer, that includes a Wi-Fi phone that you are able to use at any location at all without having a different account. As well, a SMEL that offers you to be able to handle up to 50 lines through the normal equipment provided by PBX. Vonage users currently are paying £9.99 every month so they can take advantage of unlimited local and national calling and as well the very low internation rates to make everything even better. The subscribers connect this normal house phone into an adapter (the needed equipment is provided by Vonage - the adapter) which will route your phone calls onto your internet service provider connection. This works so that the there are both incoming and outgoing calls going across the internet. For the price of an addition £9.00 (total price a month of £18.99), you can get the small business plan which also includes a separate dedicated fax number. In the United States of America, the business had introduced their thoughts to bring the Wi-Fi handset to the consumers at the Consumer Electronics Show. Subscribers which have Wi-Fi are able to use the Wi-Fi phone without using an adapter (or use the same phone with the same phone number and anywhere that you want). The spokesman for Vonage, Jamie Serino mentioned that this product should be available in the United Kingdom around the same time of the launch in the United States of America. He also mentioned that it is just another utility to make the services better. The F-1000 handset which was created by UTStarcom had guaranteed that it has 100 hours of battery life and around three hours of talking time might be taking away one of the largest walls to voice over Wi-Fi. Jamie Serino said that the subscribles are accessed to be able to take their home phone number wherever they are in the world. As well they can make calls and take incoming calls as well whether your at the airport, hotel, resteraunt or just at a friends. Leaving behind the Wi-Fi's cost for using it anywhere in the world, the calls coming to you can be sent to your voice mail or to your mobile phone. The service that Vonage provides includes various free features that include voicemail which can be also forwarded to the subscribers e-mail in the form of a .WAV file, caller ID, and as well, the power to choose your phone number. Consumers are also able to add virtual phone numbers in different areas for the price of £2.99 per month. For this, for example, someone in the United Kingdom using the Vonage services can have a phone hooked up in New York that lets New York residents phone him and only get charged a local rate. Jamie Serino said that this is one of the newer features we have that we do charge on a monthly basis. While Vonage did not disclose the price of the Wi-Fi phone, it should be much higher then the price of a normal cell phone of which the mobile operators can support from the high charges for phone calls. Jamie Serino also mentioned that they may support the fee for the handset or just not look to make any profit from the handsets at all but it mostly depends on how much the utilities will cost the company. As of now, we are giving away a Linksys router, but the Wi-Fi headset would cost a bit more then a Linksys router. While Vonage has no desire or plans to offer an enterprise leveled telephone plan, they will likely launch a small to medium sized product within the next month or so. Jamie Serino said that this product would be gunned towards the SMEs with about 50 phone lines or more. The supplies will easily connect into a key system or PBX that already exists. Sadly, there may be an extension on the date for the launch of this product for residents of the United Kingdom because it means that there will be more utilities transferring through the VAR channels. With Vonage extending their service across the world it is showing us that there is definitely going to be more worldwide services in the future and we are all own big global village. | ||
