Scotland launches a broadband campaign

A few homes and business in Scotland are still looking for an affordable, sustainable, broadband service but are not able to get one due to the long distance from the nearest telephone exchange. Although most of such areas are usually found in rural Scotland, a few areas in cities also do not have broadband accessibility.

The Scottish Government launched a project for those who have notified their demand but are denied of broadband connection. The last date for registering the demand is announced as 18th of this month.

Martyn Day of West Lothian Council said:
"A new national advertising campaign, currently underway, is hoping to aid the search for those who have tried to order and failed to access broadband.

"Through this campaign, we aim to ensure all those affected are aware of the initiative and register their demand either on the Broadband for Scotland website or by calling 0844 499 2722 before January 18.

"If you are aware of any residents in your area who have tried to order broadband and failed, it would be appreciated if you could direct them to the campaign website or number."

Anyone who fulfils the following conditions can register his demand for a broadband service.

  • Is unable to get broadband and wish to register relevant with the Scottish Government's Broadband Reach Project.
  • Tried to order a broadband service at a Scottish address but have been told that it is UNAVAILABLE.
  • Order for broadband at a Scottish address was accepted by the ISP but could provide broadband connection.
  • Could not get broadband service as there was no capacity left at the nearest exchange.
