Appointment of new COO for Cityfibre

Cityfibre has recently announced that they have made appointment of Simon Holden as their first Group Chief Operating Officer and he will be directly reporting to Greg Mesch – CEO of Cityfibre. The new COO will take up the responsibility of supporting Cityfibre’s 1Gbps capable FTTP network deployment.

Cityfibre is now in the process of working towards raising a private investment of £2.5 billion to reach 1 million premises in the UK by 2021 in 10 cities and aspire to reach 5 million premises further in 37 cities by 2024 in total planning to cover around 85% as their target.

The investment requires the operator to improve their operation and hence in the process of finding construction partners that may create more jobs in the cities. It is the right time for having recruited experienced people at top levels like Simon Holden and he will be apt for that position.

He was earlier with Goldman Sachs, a global investment firm, as a partner with 18 years of service in Newyork and London. Also he was in the senior roles such as Global Chief Operating Officer and Vice-Chairman EMEA in the Investment Banking division and other leading roles in the Telecom, Technology banking and Media team. Before joining Goldman Sachs, he was with Baring Brothers working in London & Hong Kong.

Simon Holden said that this is important time for the UK fibre market. UK is in the process of digital transformation as they are dependent on the internet and in the process of getting access to the best of digital infrastructure. He is thrilled to join the CityFibre in such an exciting time and looking forward to help them to support for their position of scale in the UK.

CEO of CityFibre – Greg Mesch said that the management board feels delighted in the appointment of Simon as their new Group Chief Operating Officer. His expertise in telecom along with his business experience will support CityFibre’s growth as they are in scale up of their business to reach 20% UK market.
