96% Superfast broadband in Staffordshire

Openreach, which has been executing Superfast Staffordshire Project, claimed that they have completed extension of FTTC/P with 24 Mbps+ speed superfast broadband network coverage of around 95.7% premises which is the nearing to their goal of 96% coverage by the end of 2018.

In total, the project of £32m+ have made available the best of superfast connectivity in 300 communities to cover an extra 75000 premises (with other roll outs of fibre under different programmes to 481000). The communities reached recently are Bishop’s Offley and Wootton near Eccleshall/ Caverswall Common, Adderley, Kingsley Moor and The Boundary near Cheadle in the Staffordshire Moorlands/ Dunkirk near Newcastle/ Ivestey Bank, Patshull Park and Lower Penn in South Staffordshire/ Hanbury Woodend, Coton-in-the-Clay, Leese Hill and Lower Loxley, Marchington Cliff and Forest Road, Wootton near Ellasatone in East Staffordshire/ Morston Court in Cannock Chase and Blithbury.

Staffs Economic Growth Leader – Councillor Mark Winnington said that in the 4 years there has been a big digital transformation in Staffordshire by getting access to superfast broadband and making ease of people’s daily routine. The Superfast Staffordshire project is a top priority programme to the county as it provides people with independent and ease living, gives more opportunities and improves economic growth. The county is determined to find out solutions for the balance 5% of premises also. They are adopting combined solutions of technologies and funding to ensure the premises in the hard to reach have get access to the broadband network.

The programme is being funded by the staffordshire council with £8.06m, £9.62 m from Broadband Delivery UK programme and £14.77m by BT. But still there are no information what is the next plan to cover the remaining areas. In a meanwhile, there is an information from the most recent council meeting revealed that they were trying to extend to reach 98% coverage of premises but depending upon the funding they find.
