3 Will Restrict P2P During Peak Hours

One of the prominent five mobile operators functioning in the United Kingdom, 3, has made a significant announcement that it would place limits on the P2P (peer to peer) traffic over its mobile broadband internet network in busy areas during peak hours. The move according to 3 sources would come to effect from November 16.

As a matter of fact, a statement containing the essence of the fresh move as well as the explanation to reason it out had been sent to the website ZDNet UK, where a spokesman of the broadband provider firm has given that the management of traffic formed a crucial part in the creation of a reasonable broadband experience for its customers, and therefore the ISP would prioritise streaming, email and web surfing over P2P traffic.

According to the 3 spokesman, during busy hours in busy areas, the mobile broadband using customers would experience slower broadband service, a fact that had urged the firm to adapt measures to improve streaming, email and web browsing experience on their network, besides ensuring that the real-time experience got the priority deserved by it.

The person added that they were managing the bandwidth amount availed for P2P filesharing during peak hours in busy regions actively, with a view to enhance the service for the lion’s share of their mobile broadband customers. Moreover, the spokesperson also made it clear that the term peak times generally refered to a term the fell between 6 pm and midnight.

However, the person affirmed that the mobile broadband company was not planning to block totally the peer-to-peer filesharing at peak hours, but was keen on just slowing it down.
