Phone scam shocks the bulldog customers

When some of the Bulldog customers were continuously getting unsolicited calls from those who were trying to hardsell their products, they had no other way but to take this matter to public. Cable & Wireless who were the former owners of Bulldog between 2004 and last September enquired into this matter and the complete picture emerged only recently.

As expected, the contact details of nearly 100,000 Bulldog customers were stolen, so to speak, by an identified third party in 2005, when Cable & Wireless had Bulldog under its network. This is a clear breach of customer rights and data protection on the part of Cable & Wireless, which may face questions from government data watchdog regarding its current data protection measures.

Although Cable & Wireless admits its responsibility for the unauthorized use of customer details of the Bulldog customers, it firmly denies the news that the bank and credit card details have also been misused. Furthermore it assured Bulldog that it is taking legal steps to prevent such incidents from happening in future.

Pipex, a UK broadband provider bought broadband customer base of Bulldog from Cable & Wireless for £12m last year. Pipex is one of the individual ISPs which had made two acquisitions last year in an attempt to compete with the major broadband providers in the UK like BT and Virgin Media broadband.
