100Mbps Broadband to be rolled out in the UK by Virgin

It is quite interesting to see that at a time when the US broadband providers are claiming that they would have a hard time achieving broadband internet speeds of 100Mbps in the coming decade, Virgin Media is all set to offer a broadband service of 100Mbps speed to 3.8 million customers in the United Kingdom by the middle of 2011.

Virgin Media the leading provider of cable and fibre optic broadband internet in the United Kingdom said that the 100Mbps broadband speeds will be twenty four fold faster than the average UK broadband connection today.

The broadband provider that offers quality broadband and digital TV bundles in the country also said that the technology savvy consumers that had a penchant for music and online games would also greatly benefit from the connection.

Virgin Media has further explained that the super fast connection speeds would be powered by a broadband internet network based on fibre optic technology and the speed is ideal for downloading an hour long TV show in approximately 30 seconds. Such speeds would also allow a full high definition fim download in less than eight minutes.

The new rollout would certainly boost the existing popularity of Virgin Media as the provider of the fastest broadband package in the UK (50Mbps broadband package). However, the broadband provider has not revealed any information on the pricing.
