    About PlusNet Broadband Provider

If you are looking for cheap broadband packages, with flexible monthly contracts or Pay As You Go mode of payment, PlusNet is the right ISP who provides a wide range of packages that do not tie you up to 12 month or 18 month contracts.

With all free VoIP calls and wi-fi minutes and with the option to buy additional usage, PlusNet certainly caters the cheap broadband needs of many people who can manage their internet usage well within their budget.

    History
Like many early ISPs in the UK, PlusNet began as a provider of internet related services in 1997. In the early days, it was offering services under the brand name Force9.

In 2000, PlusNet launched the first ever uncapped dial-up service in the UK under its present name. In the same year, PlusNet introduced its broadband products using BT lines. Initially, the ISP was offering 512 Kbps service, however, in the next few years, a variety of services were launched with higher speeds ranging between 1 Mbps and 8 Mbps.

In 2005, PlusNet purchased Parbin Ltd along with its consumer broadband division ‘ MetroNet’. This acquisition helped PlusNet to follow the suit of MetroNet and introduced PAYG option with its products later.

In January, 2007, British Telecom (BT) acquired PlusNet for £67m.

Within three months after the acquisition, PlusNet restructured its product line by introducing four packages under the name ‘Broadband Your Way’ with monthly usage allowances ranging between 1GB and 30GB. You can also bundle the home phone package with all four options.

Recently, PlusNet rolled out another product in this series – PlusNet Broadband Your Way Pro with an aim to target the game lovers and frequent VoIP users. Although its basic features do not differ much from other packages, Pro is optimized to provide fast service which is crucial for gaming and VoIP.

Recently, PlusNet has announced "Half price for three months" - discount on its Broadband Your Way Options when taken with home phone, either the evenings and weekends or anytime phone package (cheapest Home Phone starts from £9.99 a month including line rental and evening & weekend calls to UK landlines). This special offer ends on 31st August, 2008.

    PlusNet Packages

PlusNet offers relatively cheaper packages but with excellent specifications to meet the requirements of all kinds of users - home users, home workers and businesses.

PlusNet's home broadband deals (Broadband Your Way) come with three options. While the download speed is the same with all options (8Mb), the monthly usage allowance varies from option to option to meet the various needs of customers.

PlusNet also offers three broadband deals for small businesses and four broadband & phone packages.

Recently, PlusNet launched PlusNet Broadband Your Way Pro to cater the needs of online gamers and VoIP users. This package comes with prioritized traffic for online games and VoIP telephony. Although the package is available for monthly contract and PAYG, if you sign up for a 12 month contract, you get various benefits like free wireless router, static IP option, free 250 wifi minutes, broadband calls and internet security features.
