WiFi Tax ProposedReports say that the VOA (Valuation Office Agency) is all set to introduce a wireless broadband internet network tax (Wi-Fi tax) in the United Kingdom. The news has been reported by the popular pro-broadband website ISPReviews.

According to the website, the spots used for launching the wireless broadband hotspots (Wi-Fi hotspots) such as masts, would be charged with business rates. This kind of a move is understood to cause a few problems for the providers of the wireless network, as many are yet working on tight budgets relatively.

Meanwhile, the VOA has described the suggestion that it was a new tax, as misleading, claiming that no policy change has been made on the issue. A website spokesman said on the issue that all business property was subject to rates based on the rental value. Therefore, the installations for Wi-Fi were not regarded different from any other property of business. He added that accurate data of all wireless broadband sites was being collected by the officers working on it.

There are about eighty five offices in operation across the United Kingdom that comes under the VOA that is an executive body of Customs and HM Revenue.
