FREEDOM4 and ConnectMK launch WiMAX service
FREEDOM4 officially launched its WiMAX service in Milton Keynes after two years of trial period. Pipex Wireless, now FREEDOM4 is the first ISP to introduce WiMAX, an alternative for 3G technology in the UK. WiMAX is better than the normal Wi-fi which does not have that coverage a WiMAX line can offer. Moreover, this new technology often serves as a last mile to the broadband connections thus can benefit mobile workers and those who work from home. Steven Jewell, CEO of ConnectMK has commented:
FREEDOM4 has joined hands with ConnectMK to offer various broadband packages for both home users and businesses using WiMAX technology. There are three packages for home users who will get up to 2Mb download speed and 1Mb upload speed. Home users may choose packages with monthly usage allowance ranging between 10GB and 40GB. The monthly cost is £20 for the entry level package while the most expensive will cost you £50. Since, WiMAX does not require telephone line, you don’t have hidden costs like line rental, although there is one off setup cost of £45 with consumer broadband packages.
Businesses have three options as well with the cheapest broadband deal costing £60 per month. The premier package - MK Business broadband Package 3 which costs £160 a month offers upto 4Mb downstream speed and 80GB monthly usage allowance.
Irrespective of package type, there is 12 month contract for all WiMax packages while the users will be provided with the required hardware by ConnectMK.
"Our aim is to make Milton Keynes the first WiMAX-powered wireless internet city, and partnering with FREEDOM4 enables us to drive forward our ambitions. As the WiMAX network expands, we will have the capability to offer the service to an increasing number of residents and businesses, helping to make Milton Keynes a highly connected city."
