Ulverston in Cumbria now gets speedy 4G coverage by Vodafone

Ulverston town in Cumbria, that was found to have one of the slowest broadband speeds, has now got 4G mobile coverage from Vodaforne. Vodafone announced that the Cumbrian town of Ulverston is the 800th community to get 4G mobile broadband coverage. The arrival of 4G comes with the operator making improvements to the 3G network in the town.

The local MP (Barrow and Furness), John Woodcock, said people across Furness suffered from poor connectivity and coverage for too long and so Vodafone bringing 4G to Ulverston is great news, as it is important to have good mobile internet services for local families and businesses. This announcement is a step in the right direction, he added.

As part of the £2 billion spend Vodafone is making on its network and services across the country, Ulverston gets improved mobile coverage under its ROSS (Rural Open Sure Signal) programme. This project also takes 3G coverage to the remotest rural parts and includes several communities in Cumbria. Cable.co.uk reported earlier this month on the places in UK with the slowest and fastest speeds in broadband, based on speed tests gathered over the last 12 months. The data suggested Ulverston was among the 5 slowest places in the country with really low average broadband speeds.

Chief Technology Officer at Vodafone, Jorge Fernandes, welcomed the news of Ulverston becoming the 800th 4G community. Its arrival will bring faster internet speeds and the overall network improvements across the area will ensure that customers enjoy stronger coverage both outdoors and indoors, he remarked. He added that local businesses can react faster to customer needs and bring in remote working practices for staff, which could increase productivity and reduce costs.
