Virgin Media's Customer-base swell to 4.3 Million

With three times as many people in the United Kingdom taking the 50Mbps broadband package of Virgin Media than an year back, the cable giant has emerged as the second largest ISP in the United Kingdom with its customers swelling to 4.3 million.


 



It has been claimed that more and mor Brits are at present switching to the broadband deals offered by Virgin Media, with households in the country having emraced online video and connected devices.


 



According to reports 118000 households in the United Kingdom have taken the 50Mbps broadband package of Virgin Media, which shows triple the number at 2009 end. Meanwhile, a research carried out by the leading cable broadband provider has averred that the 50Mbps broadband package customers of the firm typically had 49.32Mbps in 2011 January.


 



Virgin Media said that it had witnessed a 40 per cent increase in its customers opting for its broadband deals offering connection speeds of more than or equal to 20Mbps in 2010. It added in its annual financial statement that they currently carried over half Tbps data during peak hours.


 



It is noteworthy that at the rate of half a Tbps, the customers are enabled to download 62 copies of the full Encyclopedia Brtannica each second.


 



Neil Berkett, the chief executive officer of Virgin Media said that together with the deployment of their 100Mbps broadband service across their growing cable network, they would be further accelerating their lead in next generation services besides meeting the ever-growing demand for better connectivity.
