Virgin Media to relaunch service as Virgin TV and rollout new Eos box

Tuesday, August 9th 2016

Virgin Media will be relaunching its TV service with a new name – Virgin TV and will soon replace its current TiVo box with the 4K ready Eos box. This 4K ready unit has the ability to run both the TiVo and Horizon UIs. The new box named after the Greek Goddess of Dawn, will be rolled out across Europe and Latin America by parent Liberty Global's from late 2016. The relaunch was confirmed by Tom Mockeridge, CEO of Virgin Media, at an investor call.

The CEO said that the relaunch under brand Virgin TV in UK and the new Eos box, with a new interface, will step up their ability to offer on- demand programming, giving customers a wide range of over the top applications. The president of Liberty Global said he was pleased with the new interface and remarked that it is a terrific looking UI, that's state of the art and a perfect migration to stay relevant and even lead the UK video space. This move is seen as a counter to Sky, which will be going live, in the coming days, with 4K content via its new Sky Q box.
