Virgin Media to launch a Placeholder Service with Spotify

Virgin Media, the leading cable and fibre optic broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom that has been planning for well over an year now to launch a DRM-free unlimited music streaming and download subscription service with Universal Music has reportedly stalled its plans to launch a placeholder service with Spotify.

It is understood that the current move by the cable broadband TV giant of the United Kingdom, comes under duress from the prominent record labels such as Warner Music, Sony Music and EMI who had been causing relentless problems for it. The biggest stumbling blocks in the relation between the record labels and the cable giant being the negotiating problems over functionality and price of the service.

It was apparent that Virgin Media wanted to offer the customers unlimited music downloads, which was against the schemes of the right holders.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Spotify said to The Telegraph that Virgin Media and they were close to striking a partnership contract, the finer details of which were not yet known. He added that they would be nonetheless offering fresh tools as well as content exclusively to the customers of Virgin Media as part of the agreement.

Virgin Media , on the other hand gave in a statement that it was forging fresh ground in music and while they were holding talks with multiple parties presently, they wanted to make sure that all services would be providing a genuinely compelling offering for not only the consumers but also the industry.

It seems a number of other unnamed sources in the vast music industry have confirmed the reports as according to their claims, Virgin Media was hardly in a position to introduce its own service for another one to one and a half years.
