Virgin Media launches 1.5 Gbps cable broadband
As announced in early April, Virgin Media successfully launched the 1.5 Gbps cable broadband service last week and highlighted the services rendered by it, at TechHub. 32 channels, on the DOCSIS 3 (Data over Cable Service Interface Specification), an international Telecommunication Standard that allows addition of high speed data transfer to an existing cable TV system, are combined together by Virgin Media which introduced its 50Mbps service two years back. The 1.5 Gbps download and 150 Mbps upload is a far cry with respect to domestic consumers, However Virgin Media intends to try this to determine the response of the consumers. The strength of the people utilizing the internet service is rapidly increasing. They spend most of the time ‘on line’, apart from connecting their gadgets to the net. Due to this, Virgin Media wants to try the unique fibre optic network for speeds up to 1.5 GB. It wants to be the leader in this endeavour in meeting the needs of large broadband customers. Jon James of Virgin Media remarks that most of the computers at present are based on 1 Gbps Ethernet connections. That is the limitation of any service delivering more than that. That is the same case with wireless networks as well. Connections of this speed (more than 1 Gbps) are ideal for multiple user networks. Many computers can download and upload plenty of data, while still supporting 3D and HD TV IPTV streams. While the computers can handle data of 1Gbps, video cards may not do so. Writing the data to disk may be much more difficult than getting the data from a remote server to the computer. Find unlimited broadband deals among leading UK internet service providers.
