Friday, September 25th 2009

Sir Richard Branson, the Virgin Media figurehead has been listed in a prestigious club of the United Kingdom’s Top 50 most influential personalities in technology. The rankings to list the fifty most influential Britons in technology were compiled by the popular British news portal the Telegraph.Richard Branson Listed in the Top 50 UK Technology Men Elite Group

The Telegraph compiled rankings placed the ex-adventurer at the twenty-first position. This places him a place ahead of the current minister in the government of the United Kingdom, who is responsible for Digital Britain, Stephen Timms.

It also places Branson, a step below the all-round good egg and Apple fanatic, Steven Fry. According to the promotional statement, the Virgin figurehead secured the lofty placing owing to the present status of Virgin Media, the internet service provider, as a major entity in mobile phone segment, cable television and broadband provision, as well as its global reach.

However, even while celebrating the placing of Sir Branson among the elite list, a few Virgin Media insiders still feel that it would had been fairer if the name of its chief executive officer, Neil Berkett to had been considered by the Telegraph.
