Virgin Media Christmas Broadband Ad targets Sky
The new broadband advertisement; Stop the Broadband COn launched by Virgin Media for promoting its broadband products this Christmas season appears to be targeting its major rival in the sector Sky UK.
The campaign aims at changing how the internet service providers operating in the United Kingdom are advertising their broadband services and connection speeds. This is a much debated topic as users are fast realising that they were getting considerably lower speeds against what is being advertised by the providers in the media.
According to the belief of Virgin Media, customers required to get what they paid for. This may be the reason for the cable broadband provider's pressing the advertising watchdog of the United Kingdom ASA to help in stopping misleading advertising of broadband speeds and services.
As a matter of fact, Virgin Media is also urging those who are interested to move a petition that lends support to the campaign. It is also worth noting that almost 10,000 people had signed on the petition at the time of writing.
This low budget advertisement floated by the fibre optic broadband giant plays on the British culture's idiosyncrasies. The advert offers a couple of lamps; one with Frank Lampard and the other with a genie and mentions the classic pantomime of Britain.
