Virgin Media brings BBC iPlayer on its DTV platform
BBC iPlayer will soon reach cable broadband customers, according to the report from the UK cable ISP, Virgin Media. This means, Virgin Media customers who are estimated to be over 3.5 million, can access BBC channels via iPlayer which will show the contents on their television sets instead of computer screens. Thus, the cable broadband customers will not feel necessary to go online to view the contents provided by BBC iPlayer and they need not download the contents either. BBC iPlayer was launched in December, 2007 and soon cut a niche for itself as one of the most popular VoD services in the UK. Reports shows that BBC iPlayer is only next to YouTube in terms net traffic and it is also one of the 100 websites in terms of high internet traffic. Malcom Wall of Virgin Media has commented: Recently, Virgin Media started offering free wireless routers for its broadband customers. It has also made a notification that its customers who get the default password with their wireless broadband should soon change it so that it would prevent security risks like hacking etc
"The enormous success of iPlayer online has demonstrated the desire TV viewers have for viewing quality programmes at a time that suits them."
