Virgin Media Accused

Tuesday, October 28th 2008

Virgin Media has been accused by its customers in certain parts of the network that they are misleading them about the speed of their broadband connections.

As per their cheapest "M" broadband package, the customers are told that they will enjoy an upload speed of 256Kbit/s. However, a modem config file posted at Cableforum.co.uk shows that the actual speed is just 200kbit/s. The inconsistency stanches from Virgin Media's inheritance as two split cable companies, NTL and Telewest. "M" subscribers connecting through the Telewest infrastructure at Knowsley near Liverpool get the upstream speed assures. In the intervening time, customers provided by ex-NTL head-ends at Langley and Bromley have to patch up for the low speed.

With regard to this Virgin Media stated that since the amalgamation, they have made noteworthy advancement on integrating and recuperating their legacy systems. They have completed a considerable billing centralisation project, launched a new 20Mb service and upgraded customers to higher broadband speeds for free.

They also mentioned that the differences in speeds across the NTL and Telewest will be rectified very soon, along with additional schemes to strengthen their place as the UK's foremost residential broadband service. Virgin media apologised for the confusion that have occurred and stated that they will be updating their website accordingly.
