Virgin Media 200Mbps Broadband Launch in the Near Future

Monday, March 29th 2010

It has been claimed that the subscribers to the fibre optic broadband internet services of Virgin Media would be provided access to ultra-fast broadband speeds of up to 200Mbps in a couple of years.

Virgin Media, the leading provider of cable broadband, TV and home phone bundles had recently displayed the functioning of their 200Mbps fibre optic broadband service at an exhibition - the 2010 Idela Home Show in the United Kingdom.

Virgin Media's media relations head Asam Ahmad had revealed at the London exhibition that it was quite unlikely for the consumers in the United Kingdom to have superfast broadband services in the near future.

According to a report by Digital Spy, the 185Mbps fibre optic broadband connection was showcased by Virgin Media by running a couple of 50Mbps downloads, besides streaming a high definition programme of BBC from iPlayer at the same time.

However, Ahmad resorted to suggesting that such ultrafast broadband services could be launched in a few years' time, when he was pressed for some more crucial information on a lunch date.

The leading cable broadbnd provider in the United Kingdom had only recently confirmed its launching a 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service in the United Kingdom by the end of 2010.
