Underground fibre-optic cables damaged by Rodents

Thursday, October 13th 2011

This week, broadband, TV and phone services of Virgin Media faced some hitches. Customers of Virgin Media in Scotland were the victims of this broadband outage. The connections were disrupted in areas like Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Leven.

Reason for the outage was damaged made by rodents to the underground fibre-optic cables. The hungry rats were munching on the cabling and this has resulted in the broadband outage.

Few days back on October 10th, the Virgin media connection was disrupted. That day, itself engineers visited the site and repaired the damage. However, on Tuesday the same damage occurred and engineers returned to the site again. As for now, engineers have adopted measures to prevent such damages.
