Mobile Broadband Expedited by Virgin Media

Thursday, December 3rd 2009

Virgin Media, the leading cable broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom, has started speeding up its mobile broadband product that comes packed with internet access speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. The mobile broadband deal of Virgin Media is complete with an attractive mobile broadband dongle.

Today, mobile broadband is driven largely by the HSDPA technology, which is capable of achieving speeds of up to 14Mbps theoretically. Most mobile broadband customers in the country today seems a bit disillusioned by the fact that even after two years since mobile broadband products were introduced in the market, most mobile broadband providers are still not willing to offer anything more than 3.6Mbps.

As a matter of fact, Vodafone is the only other mobile broadband supplier operating in the United Kingdom that offers a mobile broadband package with headline speeds of 7.2Mbps. Vodafone is currently the second largest mobile operator in the country, only second to O2.

It is also refreshing to see that the the existing USB modem of Vodafone and the new Virgin Media USB dongle beat the average UK broadband speeds of fixed-line broadband network in the country. It is a fact that ADSL2+ technology is providing speeds of up to 24Mbps. Still, when the nation-wide average is taken, it is disclosed as well that majority of the consumers find it difficult to see speeds more than 3.6Mbps.
