New Broadband Speeds by Virgin Media
An amount of one hundred and ten million pounds being spent by Telco for providing speeds of 120Mbps via fibre.
Virgin Media have plans to ensure that its broadband speeds are being pushed to the maximum by investing 110 million pounds in upgrades that will create a maximum speed of 120Mbps.
It is understood that they will be offering this upgrade free of cost to their present consumers and those of them who already have old modems that can handle the high speed broadband , meaning modems that are on the 20Mbps package will now be offered another one totally free.
The terrific speeds have invited accolades from David Cameron, the Prime Minister of the UK, who feels that the upgrade would quite definitely enhance the economy. To ensure that the greatest speeds would be made available to 90% of the residents in the UK is one of the biggest aspirations of the government.
The upgrades that begin in February would take about a year and a half to be finished and all people who have Virgin Media’s 10Mps speeds will get 20Mbps, the 20Mbps would avail 30Mbps speeds and the 30Mpbs would obtain 60Mbps speeds and likewise the people who already have 50Mbps would be able to access speeds of 100Mbps with those getting 100Mbps would get 120Mbps. When looking at things technically, the new facilities would not really require any serious work that has to be carried on the networks. It would only be a little engineering work that would have to be done at the hubs to ensure that its DOCSIS 3.0 network links to more channels together.
The company as yet has a lot of space in their network therefore plenty of surfers who are utilizing up to 120MB speeds will not have an difficulty. Virgin Media had already tested speeds of 200Mbps and 1.5Gbps on this same fibre-optic line.
The Internet Service Provider invests a lot of money annually to keep up and widen their network – the wiring from NTL and Telewest. BT is the other service provider who has aspirations to provide high speed Internet broadband connectivity and they are planning to offer a fibre optic network throughout the UK. This would imply that the lesser ISPs like TalkTalk, BSkyB and O2 would have to think of putting in more money into their networks or be in danger of lagging behind.
