Derry to get 100Mbps Virgin Media Broadband

Wednesday, May 18th 2011

The leading cable broadband provider and one of the two prominent fibre optic broadband providers of the United Kingdom, Virgin Media reportedly seems close to completing a important upgrade of its next generation broadband network in Derry.

This upgrade, once completed will be bringing a broadband internet service of 100Mbps connection speed and the TiVo TV service to the city in Northern Ireland.

By this more or less thirty thousand households in Derry would be able to benefit from the cable services of Virgin Media from mid June, for the first time. The cable services offered by Virgin Media include broadband connections with speeds of anything between 10 Mbps and 100Mbps, on-demand and digital TV entertainment.

The 100Mbps broadband internet service of Virgin Media had in March become available for around a million households around the United Kingdom, rolling out a connection speed that is 16 fold faster than the national average.

Homes enjoying these kind of broadband connection speeds will be able to dowload a complete music album in about 5 seconds, or a televisio show in 30 seconds. These customers can also download an entire high definition (HD) movie in just 7 minutes.
