Above 57,000 New Customers Added Over The Last Quarter: Virgin Media

Broadband service provider Virgin Media claimed last day that it has bagged a record number of broadband customers in the UK, as they have crossed the 57,000 new customers mark over the last quarter. The have added that this development has pushed their total number of cable network customers to a record 3.68 million and the number would go well beyond 3.90 million if the ADSL customers of the ISP, who are not covered by their cable network are also taken into account.

 

As a matter of fact, the last quarter of 2008 had seen Virgin Media launching the fastestVirgin Media Ad On Broadband's Faster Speeds broadband package of the UK, with the speeds of up to 50Mbps being offered. However, its new faster speeds are only accessible to only a small portion of its cable network. Still, the ISP is going ahead with its plan of XXL Broadband roll-out across the network through 2009.

 

Virgin Media's chief executive officer Neil Berkett said that the consumer response to their 50Mb next generation broadband service, since its launch in last December has been morale boosting, apart from having helped in reinforcing their status as the leading residential broadband supplier of the UK. At present, Virgin Media has 21 percent of its broadband customers connected to its 10Mb service, and 11 percent connected to its 20Mb service. The ISP had also announced early this week that a remaining 2.5 million customers of their's 2Mb service would be upgraded to 10MB service from this year May.

 

Consequently, O2 broadband, in their financial report presented this week, also has announced that they too have added 73,776 fresh customers, bringing their total customer toll to 340,866.
