250,000 Highspeed Broadband Connections for UK

According to a research carried out recently by the popular survey agency based in the United Kingdom, Point Topic, there were currently 236,000 superfast broadband connections in the United Kingdom delivering connection speeds of over 25Mbps.

The research agency predicts uing the results as the base that the country's superfast broadband lines were to be whizzing past the 250,000 mark by the end of April.

The positive that can taken from the latest Point Topic results is that the rollout of high speed broadand in the United Kingdom has started to gain speed; thanks to the initiatives of the two leading telecommunications providers of the country, BT and Virgin Media. The negative is that even this advancement represents just 1 per cent of the total UK market.

Tim Johnson, the chief analyst at Point Topic believed that despite the number of expected superfast connections in the country being quite modest, high speed broadband were to take the same path trodden by the first generation broadband at the time of its launch ten years back.

Johnson said that the industry moved on from that point of 1 per cent to touch the 13 million broadband connections mark within five years time, and currently the tally has reached to more than 19 million. He added that it was risky to just assume that there would be a repeat of the history spontaneously, although it was still a reasonable pointer on what would be happening to superfast broadband in the running decade.
