UK houselholds get the cheapest triple-play services

According to a report from Ofcom, the households in the UK get the cheapest service for broadband, telephone and digital television in entire Europe. The survey shows a UK household of average size spends £25 for getting all these services. It is found that 40 percent of UK households had preferred broadband bundles to stand-alone packages as the bundles are cost-effective and provide different mixes of broadband, home phone, mobile and digital TV services.

In France, a typical family has to spend £27.22 to get these services while it is £39.77 and £69.54 in Germany and the US respectively.

The survey also shows that UK has the largest number of subscriptions to digital TV service among the twelve countries. It is found that over three-fourths of UK households (76%) are getting broadband digital TV services. As far as the time spent for watching TV is concerned, Japan and the US lead other nations as viewers in these countries spend over 4.5 hours per day on average. This compares with 3.5 hours per day in the UK.

Social networking sites like Facebook have attracted a large number of adults in the UK as never before, the report says. The UK is also reported to have the highest percentage of adults who use these social networking sites among the all European nations. Nearly forty percent of internet browsers in the UK visit and use these sites. This compares 17 % in France, 22 % in Italy and 12 % in Germany. Canada tops the table with 53 percent of adults in Canada use social networking sites.

Both the US and Japan follow the UK with 34% and 32% respectively.
