Ofcom is the communication regulator in UK which operates under the parliament communication act of 2003. It plays an important role in advising and fixing the technical aspects and implementing the law. They initiated a Broadband speed test research last year which concluded that the average UK broadband speed was 4.1 Mbps by 2009.

This research has covered around 60 million household for a separate service test in around 1600 homes. This speed research has been extended by Ofcom for the next two years. This projects includes SAM knows as its technical partner.

Sam knows have created a WHITE BOX which is placed in the premise of the customer, but monitors the relevant ISP’s network traffic. Also the registered users would be provided with their own data which help them to track their performance. The actual results of speed research will be published every 6 months and the next stage of the research would be in testing some of the fastest broadband packages in UK.

Volunteers for the broadband speed research can visit SAM KNOWS website to register.
