High-speed fibre access to pass hundreds of new East Lancashire homes soon

Some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK will soon be delivered to the connections of hundreds of new homes in East Lancashire. Following a deal with Openreach, housing developers here will get built a Gigabit network on FTTP technology, capable of ultra-fast speeds, to connect 651 households in Blackburn, Great Harwood and Clitheroe.

The agreements are part of the initiative to connect all new housing developments on thirty properties, agreed to by Openreach in a deal with the Home Builders Federation and the government. The deal also follows after criticism of politicians and businesses angered by the lack (or non-existence) of high-speed broadband across the Ribble Valley.

The new housing developments to benefit include the Taylor Wimpey housing plans for Standen on Pendle Rd, at Clitheroe, for Blackburn's new Story Home Gib Lane development and the development of Keepmoat Homes in Harwood-Lane, Great Harwood. Additionally, houses on existing infrastructure will also get ultra-fast fibre broadband.

Openreach's Kim Mears, the managing director for infrastructure delivery, says that people living and working here will get quick access to some of the fastest speeds now available in UK, on an ultra-fast broadband network, at these sites. Kim Mears said that this reflects their commitment to offer a first-class network with the latest communication services to businesses, homes and other organisations of Lancashire and the UK. People are passionate about reliable and fast broadband services offered by providers to them and for some, it will surely influence their buying decision for new property, he added.
