Gigaclear gives £90 million contract for fibre roll-out, to Complete Utilities

Gigaclear has announced handing over a £90 million contract to Complete Utilities, to deploy a 1Gbps FTTP ultrafast network to reach almost 70,000 premises in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The rural fibre-optic ISP has worked with Complete Utilities on many civil engineering projects earlier. Major projects include the earlier phase of the joint Fastershire scheme in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, with BDUK support. Although Openreach dominated Phase-1, the recent Phase-2 gives Gigaclear a major presence. This contract largely reflects the Phase-2 wins under the same scheme. Complete Utilities will start work to connect the local homes and businesses in the 2 counties by narrow-trenching, to install 173 street-cabinets, to enable Gigaclear's fibre-optic cable to deliver Gigabit broadband.

Gigaclear's COO, Brett Shepherd, is happy to strengthen and extend the partnership with Compete Utilities, who worked successfully in Fastershire. He remarked that the innovative construction methods enable them to deliver their broadband network with minimal disruption and more efficiency to local communities and is looking forward, working jointly, to help thousands in the rural counties come into the 21st century. The MD at Complete Utilities, Steve Chaplin, said they are proud to play such a major role in delivering the new broadband network in the area and able to demonstrate how the latest methodologies will have a positive impact in future network delivery in the UK.
