Expert says broadband rollout will be a tough task
UK's new broadband minister, MP Ed Vaizey will find it a tough task if the quality broadband is rolled out universally. MP Ed Vaizey was recently appointed minister for broadband and telecoms with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport(DCMS).
Following the governments spending cuts, the newly appointed minister will have the work cut out in amending the country's broadband, says Chris Marling editor of comparison service, Broadband Genie.
The treasury announced earlier today that the funding of DCMS will be cut by £88 million. Mr. Marling said that they can only hope that the new government realises that a strong band infrastructure will be priceless for the creative industries which are the life blood of their nation. He also said that the wrong people were targeted with the 50p tax and that the government must spend to build our broadband in a competitive way.
Mr. Marling also said that the new minister must concentrate his attention on the universal roll-out of 2MB broadband making sure that the UK moves ahead towards the super-fast broadband and abrogating the mess up of the Digital Economy Bill.
